We can not find a seperate heating pump in this property....is it in the back boiler housing or doeas this model not have a built in pump? Thanks. John.

back boiler? try looking under the floor to side of the chimney breast where your pipes rise to first floor.

said antique vulcan verona back boiler....
when trying to find pump today in order to bleed it to remove airlock in sys, pilot light went out and we cannot now get it to stay lit - when holding white button down it lights fine, but after leaving 30 sec and taking finger off button, it clicks and light goes out... we know this boiler is on its way out but any suggestions gratefully received : )

siunds like its probly just the thermocouple. shouldnt cost much to get a corgi in to change h=this and give the boiler a well needed service.

This must be very inefficient indeed.

Probably wastes 50% of the gas used!

I cannot immagine why anyone still wants to use one.

yeh we know its old, but if theres any way to revive it, its worth trying! will someone even come out to it tho, without condemning it and making for the nearest exit ?

you need someone to come out to look at it. if they comdemn it , its for your own good. as you say you know its old yet youve waited till it comes to this.

You need an ex-British gas fellow who is over 55 ! They love them and it will remind them of their youth!

Anyone younger will think they are an inefficient piece of outdated rubbish.

please change your attitude and just look at the figures of gas you are wasting.

The cost of a replacement boiler at say £1700, will give a return on capital of about 30% by the saving on gas as they are over 90% efficient.

I am sure if you saw that return being ofered at a local bank you would rush in with £1700 the same day!

Tony

1700 would be an improvement on the 3000 we have been quoted by 4-5 corgis already. its not the attitude, its the cost ! grateful if anyone can recommend a resonably priced corgi in leeds ?

depending on the work they are quoting for and the boiler they are fitting £3000 could well be pretty reasonable. At least all the quotes are falling in the same bracket.

what are they suggesting?

cap off and leave the vulcan in situ, resite new combi boiler upstairs, remove copper cylinder, run gas pipe down exterior wall, leave existing rads just fit thermo controls on each.

is it not pretty maj to take apart the chimney breast and is there much benefit - if we wanted at some point to fit another gas fire, could we still do that anyway,or not unless the boiler was taken out ?
