Hi,
I am thinking of converting a box room on the second floor of my town house and just wondered, does a toilet have to be fitted on a outside wall. The toilet would be on an internal wall and wondered can i put the waste pipe straight down into the floow which is wooden have it run under the floor to the outside wall and then have it run into the waste pipe that is outside for the 1st floor toilet.
Hope this makes some kind os sense

you can have the waste run under the floor providing -
the joists run the right way and you can get the angle on the soil pipe.

Just so you’re aware; if you are installing a w/c in the room & building any new stud partition wall(s), any wall forming a partition to adjoining, habitable rooms (another bedroom) must have sound insulation; also the work you are doing is subject to building regulations, is notifyable & will (should) be subject to LABC inspection. :wink:

Does it require planning if i am justing put a door in a existing partian wall.
No it doesn't require planning consent but installing a toilet & other services is “notifyable work” & must conform to Building Regulations, they are 2 completely different things! You are converting an existing room into a cloakroom & any new services, including the walls, electrical work, soil/foul drainage & any connection to an existing or new sewer must comply with Building Regs. will almost certainly be inspected & may even need to be witness tested.

Take some time out to visit the planning portal, read & understand (hopefully);

It's a common mistake to make but it's not difficult to comply with BR's; you could, of course, chose to ignore it all but unauthorised/non compliant building works (even inside the property) could cause you problems when you come to sell. Unless you can produce a certificate of compliance for the work, any potential buyer may not be able to get a loan on the property; no loan usually = no sale!
