plastering after wooden floor is laid?

Hello All,

I have a solid oak floor, 18mm thick. It's been down a while now without issue. However, we now need to have 2 walls re-plastered.

I remember reading in the instructions for the flooring that all 'wet trades' should be finished on site and everything should be left for a while to dry out.

What will effect will plastering after have on the floor if any?

i have the same floor as yourself.
had to replaster 4 walls and ceiling (skim coat) approx 60m2.
i covered the floor with polythene and taped it at edges with masking tape, then i covered the rest with heavy duty dustsheets.

i done the plastering in the summer time and kept the windows and patio doors open till late at night for around a week.
the floor suffered no ill effects.

That's the right way: making sure the excess moist from plastering can escape your home a.s.a.p. Even in Winter - open windows!

j - taped down poly then cover with cheapo (£5ish) 8 x 4 sheets of hardboard (these can be snapped into bits & bagged & skipped at the end). The advantage of using hardboard is that it will offer mechanical PROTECTION to the floor whilst the work is progressing.

too right! you can never overdo the protection when you consider the money laid out on these hardwood floors.
i should have laid hardboard as well but i got away with it ....................this time

If your new wood floor is pre-oiled (or oiled on site) wait at least 10 days before protecting it with hardboard or other materials. The oil must cure fully first otherwise materials like hardboard will stick to it
