Room thermostat in a bathroom

I am not aware of a mains stat that is suitable for use in a bathroom. I am not sure that a stat is suitable for the environment (steamy and all that).
You should check with the manufacturer.

If you must do it then I would suggest a battery wireless stat would comply with wiring regs. What is the application?

I had read it and noted it - no harm in fishing from other contributors :D
Thanks though

not saying it complies (get that in before someone starts!!)
but had frost and room stats in my last house bathroom and never had a problem with either! both were made by Drayton zone valve was in bedroom

the stats controlled the towelrail only rest of house had 2 more zone valves/roomstats/froststats 1 for each floor

My quest continues - managed to get a reply from Salus who advised me that a stat in a bathroom would work but without any clue as to how long. Products are IP40 rated which, as I understand it, offer no moisture protection (the 0 informs this). Elsewhere, on honeywell MI's, I read that the products are designed to work in areas of 10 to 95% humidity.

Is this a contradiction, or am I completely misunderstanding something :?

I presume it doesn't sense properly under 10% and over 95% it would surely be wet?

How many bathrooms do you know that have 95% saturation? Unless it's quite a large leak  Also, if it requires some humidity to function properly, then I can understand the 0 IP water protection rating, but can you see any reason why it would fail/break/malfunction prematurely? Surely, with an increase of use of zones in CH installations as energy saving techniques, a thermostat in a bathroom is a desirable thing, and the change to zones in the 17th edition (after my limited research it has to be said) lends itself to installing volt-free stats. :?

Am losing the will to live over this now, but how about if the stat is placed inside a waterproof box with swinging lid - as used for outside sockets/lightswitches?

Percentages in this context are almost certainly relative humidity. That is the ammount of water vapour in the air relative to the ammount it can hold at the current temperature.

As the relative humidity nears 100% anything that is even slightly colder than the ambiant air will get condensation on it.

If you have the extractor fan off and a bath full of sufficiantly hot water a bathroom can easilly reach 100% relative humidity. Not that letting it happen is a particularlly bright idea ;).

sure that would defeat the object? as enclosed in a box all it will sense is the box temp not the room temp :?

True. D'oh. But the box temp will be related to the room temp.

Anyway, have worked out a more realistic solution - use a battery RF thermostat. Think 6V should be safe in the bathroom, and if it gets too damp, I can put the stat in the oven drier for 30mins every so often.
