A strange teacher, a bus driver and a frog -board an aeroplane on a conveyor........

See my signature

While we wait for Trazor...

The hare and the tortoise live (as the crow flies) 80 miles apart. If they set off at the same time to meet each other with the hair travelling at 9 miles an hour and the tortoise at 1 mile an hour how many miles will the hare have to travel before meeting the tortoise en route?

The plane makes two preparatory flights before it takes off for it's round the world flight.

Edit - Got that wrong

Three women each have two daughters.

They are having lunch at a restaurant .

There are only seven chairs in the restaurant.

All the women are seated.

Question: How is this possible?
:?:

I have 6 chains, each chain has 5 links.

If it costs 10p to cut a link, and 90p to weld a link, what is the cheapest I can have an endless chain made for?

Back to the plane, now I've seen the error of my ways.

Twelve preparatory flights prior to the big one (counting each leg as a seperate flight)

1 1/8 way round the world eastwards, to waypoint 1 and leave half a full load of fuel
2 return to base and refuel
3 fly to waypoint 1 and top up tanks, leaving 1/4 load at waypoint 1.
4 fly to waypoint 2 at 1/4 way round the world. leave 1/2 full load.
5 return to waypoint 1 and load remaining fuel.
6 return to base.

7 - 12 repeat 1-6, but heading westwards.

There's now enough fuel at two waypoints spaced at 1/4 and 3/4 of the way round the globe for the plane to complete a round the world flight in three legs. The total fuel used is five full loads.

Old Tom is reputed to be slow of wit. So much so that the locals in the pub regularly play a game with him to demonstrate.

They place a 50 pence coin and a £1 coin on the table, and ask Tom to take the one he likes. Tom always takes the 50p, 'because it's bigger and shinier'.

A stranger pointed out the £1 coin was more valuable. Tom thanked him for his advice and agreed the stranger was correct, but said he preferred to carry on playing the game his way.

Why?

£2 for a three strand chain of 10 links or £6 for a single strand chain of 30 links,
