When the trains met, which one was furthest from London?

They would both be exactly the same distance from both London and Manchester.

Not a riddle as such but heard this tonight on the radio.

What do Kangaroos do when they are nervous?

Old Tom is reputed to be slow of wit. So much so that the locals in the pub regularly play a game with him to demonstrate.

They place a 50 pence coin and a £1 coin on the table, and ask Tom to take the one he likes. Tom always takes the 50p, 'because it's bigger and shinier'.

A stranger pointed out the £1 coin was more valuable. Tom thanked him for his advice and agreed the stranger was correct, but said he preferred to carry on playing the game his way.

Why?

he was making 10 bob a time?

Two tortoises, initially a mile apart, set off towards each other at one mph each. While this is going on, a fly sets off from the nose of one tortoise at 10 mph, in a straight line, towards the nose of the other tortoise. As soon as it reaches the second tortoise, it turns round and flies straight back towards the first one. It continues to fly back and forth between the two tortoises until they meet and touch noses. How far does the fly travel. :)

5 Miles.
At 1 MPH each, it takes half an hour before the tortoises meet, each covering half a mile.
If the fly is flying continuously at 10MPH, it will fly 5 miles in that time.

Once he started taking the pound coin, the game would have no point and would quickly stop.
As he keeps taking the 50p, the joke could keep going for quite a while, so he would take more in the long run.
Correct

Old one again:

Three lights in a room, three switches wired randomly to each of these lights outside of the room.

You are only allowed one switch to be "on" when you enter the room and you can only enter the room once.

You cannot see in the room when you operate a switch due to their location.

How do you work out which switch operates each light?

After you've operated each switch, go and open the door to have a look without entering.

1) Switch one on, wait a few minutes then switch it off.

2) Switch on another one and leave it on.

3) Go into the room.

You will find one bulb on and, of the other two, one will be hot. :D :D :D

Here's one to really make you cringe --

There were three men in a boat with four cigarettes but absolutely nothing else. How did they all get a smoke?
