Jacko

The whole thing sounded very tacky, but the Americans can do tacky can't they.

Sadly this will not be the end of it there will be more "shock" revelations I am sure.

Did Gary Glitter go to the party or was that a bit of mis info.

I think the whole thing has been ridiculous. From his 'true/real' fans who, less than 24hrs after his death, were more worried about getting a refund on their concert tickets than the fact that he had died, to the 'Jackson's Motown Years' CD which has been released before he's even been buried (a tribute, or a cash-cow??), to his very close friend Liz Taylor who publicly declared she wasn't going to the memorial concert because she believes greif and mourning should be a personal thing, not something aired to the masses - unless of course its the grief and mourning she shared with the masses on her own twitter site.

The sooner all the fuss dies down and everyone moves on and forgets about it the better.

There seem to be a lot of site members who didn't like him, or don't like what he stood for, or don't like what he was accused of doing, or are simply envious of his talent and popularity. The theme of posts from these members seems to be disapproval of how the mourning is taking place.

There's always communal mourning when there's been communal adoration. There's no shadow of a doubt that he was incredibly popular, and I don't see any grounds for criticising the people who liked him.

Why is it surprising that music publishers are re-releasing their products? That's what they do.

And why is it surprising that other artists and public figures give public performances and make public announcements? That's what they do.

Banging on about him just prolongs the memory. If you didn't like him, then get over it.

He can't have been that popular, at least not with the younger generations. He had to snuff it to shift some records. It's just the usual media generated mass hysteria, and a very sad indictment of most people under 40 it seems. If the biblical version of god existed we would all have been turned into pillars of salt long ago. Sodom and Gomorrah had nothing on modern western societies.

Thriller topped the charts for nine months (37 weeks) and remained in Billboard’s album chart for more than two years (122 weeks). Jackson won eight Grammy Awards and seven American Music Awards for Thriller. In 1985, it was proclaimed the Best Selling Album of All Time by the Guinness Book of Records. As of July 2001, Thriller has sold 26 million copies in the U.S., making it the second best-selling album in history behind the Eagles’ Greatest Hits (27 million). Worldwide, Thriller has sold 51 million copies.

Were you unware that he was about to embark on tour, and that all tickets were sold, much like hotcakes, as fast as you could say "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"?

On the contrary - most fans seem very calm; Upset, I grant you, but quite docile. It's the whingers who are getting all uncontrollably weird about it.

As a whinger I don't feel out of control or indeed weird.

Reports of fans commiting suicide over Jacko's death are unfounded then.

I am just sick and tired about the constant media frenzy, headlines today "Family will not bury Jacko without his brain" Surely this is something that didn't need splashing all over the front page, just let it go.

The family deserve flogging putting that young girl on show at the memorial service.

Probably all wanted to see if he could get through a dance routine without all the bits flying off.

If the latest unknown talentless no mark out of the big brother house snuffed it the day after getting booted out,(oh sorry that's already happened) that would also be seen as a national tragedy by the kind of people who are now mourning for the weirdo.(so's that)

More post mortem trivia:

- Internet traffic linked to the memorial service was 67% above average, making it the second-largest online traffic peak, according to Akamai Technologies, whose networks process 20% of all traffic on the internet

- Use of news sites almost doubled (from 2 million visitors per minute, the average, to nearly 4 million) while use of online video streaming was up by 471%, Akamai said

- 9.7 million watched the event online at CNN.com, but total online figures are not yet available

- On Twitter, 80,000 messages per hour included the phrase Michael Jackson, while over a million Facebook users fired off 6,000 updates per minute directly linked to CNN’s live feed of the event

- Michael Jackson has 7,453,072 fans on Facebook, and counting (Barack Obama has 6,441,466).

- The virtual Michael Jackson glove has become the most popular gift in the site’s history, as more than 800,000 gloves have been exchanged by Facebook friends

- 6.5 million watched the memorial event on TV in the UK and 31 million in the US. Estimates say at least 1 billion watched worldwide but it is not yet clear whether the figures will beat the 2.5 billion who watched Diana, Princess of Wales’s memorial service

HP

How do they know how many people watched it on TV, I can understand that they know how many TV sets are tuned in but how do they know how many people are sat in front of them.

Ever since 1984 all televisions have a tiny camera inside. They're watching you watching them.

So remember that next time you think you're on your own and having a tug ;)

Goldberg..... Thriller was 24 years ago as sooey says the younger generation where not even a twinkle in there fathers eye then...

hmmm after reading this thread i feel i must apologise to goldberg for calling him a tw*t a few days ago.

and sooey, the man sold 750 million records, and his "thriller" album was made over 25 years ago and no one has still sold more.

Yeah but how many did he sell in the last ten years or so. Don't forget twenty years ago he could afford his incredibly lavish tastes. One of his problems was that he didn't lose the tastes when he lost the income.
