Hi, ive got a bathroom with a toilet next door with a wall in between them and a soil stack next to the wall boxed in in the bathroom. I want to knock the wall down and have a big bathroom. The problem is the soil stack gos straight up through the loft and the roof( i live in a bungalow) ivebeen told this is to vent the soil stack is there any way i can get rid of his soil pipe as it sit in the middle of the wall can i cut it and put something on to vent? or any other ideas? thanks for your time

You can put a air admittance valve on the soil pipe but it has to be cut so it is just above the highest spill level usually the basin.

Search for a Durgo valve as that is a brand name for this unit.

is there any way i can have this lower than the basin i would like to box in the vanity unit ?

can you not move the vent pipe to outside

take it you read that. you cant use an aav outside. there is one on the market for outside.but just easier to vent to atmosphere for a bungalow.

so i can go outside with the stack and go just above basin height and put a aav on with out going through the roof?

your missing the point an avv isnt always the answer. plus i dont know if the outside aav is to be decided by building control.but why do you think you have to go through the roof, going round the eves with some 45s is the option.when your going past some houses with outside vent pipes take note.

If you can get outside with the stack then you don’t need an AAAV. Why would you need to go through the roof if you can get the stack on an outside wall?

The top of a vented stack must be at least 900mm above any opening within 3m of the stack.

You can only fit an AAAV if your foul drain system is positively vented elsewhere.
