Complicated Light Wiring

I have a reasonably long garden with a garage at the other end to the house, We always gain access to the house though the garage.

What i would like to have two flood lights one on the garage pointing up the garden and one on the house pointing down the garden. I would like PIR on both lights configured that if i come out the garage both lights would come on but coming out the house only the top light turns on.

Is this possible as i see some floodlight can switch other lights on though not sure how this works if both lights have PIR

No it won't work.

The best will be 2 x seperate PIR's with some overlap on the PIR detection field.

Say the path is 40m long from the garage. Garage area activates for 25m detection field and so does the house PIR.

So walking down 15m will have PIR garage on, then you come in to house PIR range on, so garage still on but set to off after 20 secs (or so). The combined action will give you garage on, garage and house on and just hous on.

Walking from the house it will work the other way, house on, house and garage on, garage on.

If you were prepared it could be done with 2 way switching at either end on IP rated switches. This would require 3 core + earth run from garage to house switch and 3 core + earth run from house to garage switch.

I wouldn't have thought that floodlights at either end of a long space would be the best way to light that space. At some points they'll be shining directly into your eyes.

Why not light the path with a row of bollards?

If that's really what you want it's straightforwards to do.

If you want the garage flood to come on only when you're entering/exiting the garage mount the PIR pointing as near straight down as practical so that it only senses you if you are very close to the garage.

Put a second PIR beside the garage light pointing fairly close so that it senses you as you leave the garage. Wire so that either this or another PIR at the house end turns the house flood on.

Any decent Spark will advise on parts and costs. You are probably better with a plain flood for the house together with 2 standalone PIRs. If you follow BAS' suggestion, use the double PIR to switch on your selection of garden lighting.

I was looking for a really neat way of doing it, I'm quite @n@l really. i was hoping i might just be able to directly switch the other light off one PIR while leaving its own PIR intact.

Looks like the best solution might be to try and get the sensor areas to over lap though most are only say about 10 meter detection at a height of 2.5 meters which may be hard in a 40m garden separated half way by trees.

Damm someone not building a remote switch into lights

You'd need a 30m remote for each user, and IP boxes for the remote sensors.

Use a relay connecting the coil across the lamp in the garage luminaire and the contact across the PIR sensor in the house luminaire.

Or even simpler connect both luminaires in parallel including the 'switched live' and both PIR's will operate both lamps. This method assumes the PIR is capable of switching the additional load, the instructions will give this info.

Bythe way, if you use a PIR sensor with an output (like the ones you get at B&Q) you can wire one light to this output AND its own sensor and the other just to a sensor.

Wire the garage PIR into the garage light input. Wire the garage PIR output into the house light input. Then wire the house PIR also into the house light input.
