My ex's dad is as adept at using the net as the next guy, and he is not that far short of 100. He might not compete at the London Marathon, but still sharp as a tack.

Thanks Tony for the advice and I plan to write to British Gas. Especially as when I called the installation manager back he found it difficult to admit that it could have been done any other way. He did admit it at one point then back-pedalled hard when I asked why I wasn't given the option at the quotation stage.

And thanks htgen, I might take you up on that.

Yes, there was a salesman at the start. Very impressive, they are with their laptops. They ensconce themselves in your house, print stuff off, make a strong case about how they are backed by this that and the other watchdog, explain why their system is so effective then give you a discount if you sign there and then.

Don't be surprised when BG issue their operatives  with horse and carts.

The only thing a BG sale shark has missing from his bag of tricks, is a Colt 45.

Well, following everybody's advice, I wrote to BG and within a week they phoned and a couple of days after that arranged to send round an engineer to rectify their work. Result! (Hopefully) They are coming tomorrow.

By the way I'm not quite an OAP yet. But I guess we all will be one day. Ageism never helped anyone.
