Reverse Circulation

After a call today from a customer who has a problem with his radiators warming up when the h/water was on I assumed the obvious.

The customer informed me he had already had a plumber carry out a repair to stop this hapenning. Plumber had changed the C/H zone valve (and charged £335!). The problem persisted, and after repeated attempts the customer cannot get the plumber back to investigate. It transpires said plumber changed all rad valves 12 months ago and the system hasnt worked properly since then.

I diagnosed reverse circulation and have (temporarily) solved it by balancing down the h/w circuit by the gate vlv on the h/w return. It now works fairy well. I can only guess the plumber caused the reverse circulation to be more 'apparent' than it was before by maybe altering pump speed / opening up the h/w gate vlv and has no idea what hed did / how to correct it.

The guy is elderly and keen to know why I am confusing him (I guess his experience with plumbers is poor - understandibly) with the terminology Im using. I have got him understand what Im talking about as we have run the system from cold (he had son with him) and felt flow pipes getting hot, only for returns to warm up when h/w is selected. The son immediately understood the point I was trying to get across.

So... does anyone have a decent drawing of reverse circulation on a badly designed 'S' plan. Ive tried an Im carp!

Thanks for any help.

Check ChirsR's posts, I am fairly sure he posted a drawing about 2/3 weeks ago.

If you can do a accurate but rough scribble and email it I can tell you virtually straight away where the problem is.
