I have had BGas come today (they haven been a few time to various probs mostly minor - low pressure - resets etc - system balancing
I have a Vokera combi - and microbore pipes - Most rads are not v hot if at all - Diagnosis - bolier and rads are fine and water is geting to them ok - but not going back - engineer suggests microbore return is blocked somewhere and will not flush (no mention of any sludge or similar on any prior visit) so I am jiggered - only option is to ring builder and try NHBC cover - any opinions ? offers ? - gutted dot com

Could you explain what happened when they balanced the system? Did the rads work then?

Try taking the lockshield covers off and opening these valves by a turn or so each.

yes - but that was last year - havent had any probs this year - but havent had heating on since april - did have a low pressure prob with water only this summer - Bgas came out and sorted it

Talking of pressure you could bump it up to 1.5bar cold.

If the water gets to the rad it has to be returning.

Easy DIY fix is to turn both valves off and drain the radiator, then connect a hos to the return valve and draw a load of water through.

Saying that if it's a new build then the builder should get it sorted.

Possibly, but there's still no harm in opening some of the lockshields a bit anyway. Worth a shout!

get a dose of ds 40 in there if it is moving at all that will sort it

Is it a 10 mm system pipe size?

10 mm is usually not too bad but 8 mm is almost always a problem!

which vokera boiler is it? I wonder if it has a return filter? Its easy to blame microbore and overlook a much simpler problem

Exactly mickyg.

The water is circulating or the rad wouldn't get warm., as dextrous said open the return valve right up and see what happens.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to check the TRV pin isn't stuck as well.

Please remember all on here - the op is saying that none of his rads are getting hot, not just the one. To my simple mind, it's a starting point that whoever balanced the system (BG? :? ) may have made a pig's ear of it.

May be worth asking what the pump is set on as well. (assuming it's adjustable)

I know where alot of these houses are. Fairly new builds. They have vokera's with plastic microbore. The problem is that non barrier plastic has been used in alot of them and they sludge up rapaidly. The whole Ch system is a mare, rads rotting after a few years, heat ex's leaking and system blockages.

OP - Are you in LN2 by any chance? You ran a good chance of me turning today but i got shunted across to gainsborough

thanks thus far - to add - system is getting warm in some rads = particularly upstairs - I am sure its 10mm plastic mostly - did add a metallic one when convering garage around 5 yrs ago (house was 15 months old then and system worked fine) - Property is 6.5 yrs old - will my builder still sort the issue ? JS Bloor - Bottesford Greenacres buils project by the way.

Lockshield covers ?? - they on top at one end of rad ? Surely the engineer would have looked at most of these options ?
