I wonder if someone can help,

I've just had my old boiler replaced and a new Vaillant Ecotec 837 combi boiler installed. The plumber that we got to carry out the work claimed to be Gas Safe approved, however although the hot water works fine and the heating also seems to work, after around 12 hours the pressure gauge on the boiler was in the red and the display showed 3 bar.

I bled the radiators (As he told be to do) and after this the pressure was back down to the middle of the gauge. If I wait a couple of hours and go back to the radiators and try to bleed them again I get a lot of air coming out before water comes out. My question is, is this happening just because the boiler was only changed yesterday? and is it likley to settle down or could it be a sign of more serious problems? The central heating was fine with the old boiler (Non combi)

The reason for the question to the forum rather than my plumber is that I can no longer get hold of him, He hasn't given me a certificate and he did seem a bit too keen to get away yesterday after completing the work.

Given that I have my doubts about the installation I am not leaving the system switched on at night time and I will try and find a real Gas Safe plumber to check and commission the system as soon as I can on Monday

Any help or Ideas would be gratefully received

Neil

Yep dead believable, done yesterday and guy dissappeared, eh its sunday

Strange post

He should at least have filled in the installation book - the Benchmark paperwork at the back (page 52), and left it with you. If he has then it's probably all fine and you are worrying too much. The Gassafe certificate will come in due course - he does this online at home or at his office. So don't be too worried yet. If you want to be sure, you can check for his registration on the gassafe website. Finally, yesterday was Saturday, and he is allowed to have a bit of time off :?

I suspect the air in the system was because he was too quick in getting away - leaving the pressure in the red indicates a form of pressure test to check for leaks. Bit naughty, but not too tragic. Should be set so the bottom bit of the needle is pointing to the "r" of the "bar" written at the bottom.

Cehck the paperwork to make sure that he has written down what inhibitor he has put into the system, and bleed the rads while the system is cold. Keep us informed if any further problems arise. You can perform a few test programs - see page 47 of the installers booklet.

Why strange? I tried calling him on his mobile yesterday and today. I'm not some muppet, I am a Fire Alarm, CCTV & Intruder Alarm Engineer, I Also have my C&G 2381 & 2391. I'm not someone who tries to take on a job that I'm to qualified to do (As I'm sure your reply suggests)

So you say youwill get a REAL gas safe engineer,,,,, why do you think the supposed dissappeared guy is not

No one is suggesting anything at all, other that it does seem a bit impatient of you. Why shouldn't he turn off his work mobile at the start of his weekend?

Sorry about the impatience!!

In my industry we have to run a 24hr call out facility with a 4hr response time, so I tend to expect everyone else to do the same (wrongly!)

I guess the reason I'm getting a bit frustrated is that we are having a new bathroom fitted, and I've got 3 kids and a Wife so with no bathroom for the last week its been a bit stressful to say the least!!

Sorry for appearing rude gentlemen and ladies

I've just checked today on the gas safe register and I can't find him. He did come recommended by my father in law, which Is why I used him

Fair enough. Check his gassafe reg online and the back of the log book (his number should be at the bottom of the page next to his signature).

Is there any other reason why you are questioning his competence other than rushing off a bit too quickly for your liking?

Is the benchmark sheet filled out?
Is the filling loop properly closed?
When I work monday til saturday, I don't always answer the phone on sunday, quite understandable. I do check who calls, and will answer if it is a well paying customer, and leave it if it is a budget job or somebody who is difficult. Not saying you are one or the other by the way.

filling loop must be shut cos if open on an eco tech hot water doesnt work.

Air is because he probably didnt run through the P1-6 stages required during comiisioning. These boilers are not plug and play.

i would have answered had i done the job on saturday cos things happen.try him monday
