If cars had magnetic bumpers which were set at the same poles so that they would repell rather than attract would this prevent cars smashing into each other, or would Newtons principles come into play. :?

I wouldnt be happy if i lost my watch every time a car passed me

Thats an interesting concept, an array of the very strong neobidium magnets might cushion the impact, but you might have to be very careful where you parked, and in which direction
though taking it one stage further, and let the magnets attract each other you then have the basis for a close coupled road train, for progressing down the motorway in convoy.

Wotan

they would have to be electromagnets that activated on swift deceleration only..?
otherwise as said, every time you walked past the back of the car with a trolley it would get stuck to it and it would erase your credit cards...

If they zig zag cables in the lanes of motorways as the cars intersect them they could generate power energy problem solved.

Nobel prize next year for t****r methinks :D

You don't go to Liverpool then

Wouldn't be just his watch he'd lose!

Chip isnt affected by magnetic fields.

In a local hardware store they have a magnetic 'patch' on the till table with a big warning not to place any cards in this area. The magnetic 'patch' is to remove the security code of items bought.

Granted, any cards they really need the magnetic stripe will be rendered useless, but chip n pin cards will still work.

I used to think those magnetic mats were just there for the laugh, like a sign that says "read this sign and take note of it".

sounds like one for the mythbusters...

can a strong magnet wipe out the chip on a credit card?

if it's strong enough to repel a car then would it be strong enough to induce a current in the cip and fry it.. ?
