Our whirlpool electric oven broken last week, its part of a fitted unit from ikea with gas hobs above. Rang our landlord who said she has ordered one from M&S the right size (i'd roughly measured the front of it and given her measurements) - so can we pull out old and put the new one in. She assures me it is a case of putting in the plug and switching on.
Is this the case? Are we safe to do this or should we get an electrician out?
Please help I'm worried.

Thanks

If it's a fitted oven then I'd say that it's your landlords responsibility to replace and install it..

They could however want you to get your own electrician in to fit it as it would be you who would have to be in when it's done.. and then they'd reimburse you???

If the old oven was simply plugged in and the new one comes with a fitted plug then you'll just need to plug it in again.

You'll get two or four screws to fix the oven into the cabinet (open the door and you'll find the fixing locations on each side).

If it's anything more than that then contact your landlord/lady and ask them to organise an electrician, assuming the appliance was in place when you moved in.

Some single ovens will plug in. Others will not.
Either way, if the oven was supplied with the property, it is up to the landlord to arrange replacement, which includes removing the old one and installing the new.

When you say 'broken' - what was actually wrong with it? Quite likely it could have been repaired for a fraction of the price of a new one.

Thank you. As she lives too far away she won't come out and assures me its a case of putting plug in but i'm not convinced. Is this going to be difficult to lift and heavy?

It blew the fuse so we switched it back on thinking it was okay as seemed to work, then wouldn't heat up above about 130 degrees.

Thanks for your help

Too far away is not an excuse - the landlord should arrange for an electrician in your area to install it.

Glad my sisters landloard doesnt use that excuse, Hes in Australia for 9 months of the year, but has organised repairs etc quickly.

its worth a look, but if the new oven has no plug on it, I wouldnt put one on, in my experiance, some landlords only need a slight excuse when anything breaks/goes wrong.
