chubb alarm reset code help...

Help please.

First post, so here goes...

My alarm panel is saying call eng reset code req 0912.

anyone know how to sort this out without paying chubb £150 + VAT for call out.

The panel is asking for a remote reset. Have you had an activation?

You should'nt have to call them out for this, hence the term remote reset. If you ring their central station up, tell them why the alarm has gone off and quote the 4 digit code. If they accept the reason you give them, they will give you a 4 digit code in return which will reset the panel.

Depending on the make/model of the control panel, this can be a little "round the houses". If it was originally installed by Initial, it's likely to be an Aritech Advisor panel, probably a CD72 or 95. There are several menus you need to go through in this panel to get to the remote reset menu.

A somewhat sneaky trick employed on a few of the jobs we've taken over from this particular company is to assign all the user codes in the system as a basic user, with no access to the remote reset menu, thus resulting in a call out being required to reset the panel...

thanks for your reply. I did explain everything but there are adamant an engineer has to visit my house. I'm totally fed up with Initial / Chubb. Will never use them again.

The reason for the visit, I expect, is because you have had x number of activations within a given time, rules & regs. you know.
or
When you contacted them did you say something like, 'sorry, I don't know why it went off' ? That is enough reason to refuse the reset and to send the engineer, same rules & regs. you know.

Also, have you had a police letter warning that any further activations will result in having police response withdrawn for ......... ?

The above WILL affect your insurance, more so if you don't tell them and something happens and you make a claim.

Perhaps it would be best to 'bite the bullet' and let them do their job, after all you did sign the contract.

And before you or anyone else suggests it, I am NOT employed by your alarm company, but another national company who has to work by the same rules. And not the usual suspect ether.

I don't know how you managed to summise that lot from the information given.

Since he is asking how to reset the panel one has to summise this was the FIRST time he has had a problem or he would have known everything you have suggested.

You forgot to mention that Police response can be withdrawn if the company racks up false alarms too regardless of the homeowners own particular system.

If I were to jump to conclusions like yourself you may possibly learn that the company simply want to earn more money by sending engineers out to do a job that could have been done remotely.

There you go again. Stirring up trouble by insinuating the customer is being turned over by the installer. You know next to nothing about the industry - your spurious, unfounded beliefs are just, not facts.

you're not accredited, you only fit grade 1 diy product and do not know the regs. Please don't cloud the issue by pretending otherwise.

Fast Alarms, sorry smeeagain or what ever you are calling yourself today, if you read and try to understand what I have written you will see that I have explained the way his alarm company is regulated and has to operate. with an approved alarm connected to remote signalling (hoping that the explanation would also be of help to others).

As you only fit and charge for fitting DiY systems you are not qualified to comment on regulated companies, something that is obviously above your understanding, so I hope you will now go away and start your own Diy forum where all the DiYers can listen to your 'professional' DiY advice.

The OP hasn't even said it was connected to an ARC!
He also previously said it was installed by Initial who were taken over by Chubb and has said he has had problems with both.

Since Initial were taken over by Chubb one has to ask wether the original contract is still in force. The OP has not mentioned paying any monthly fee.

I was not pointing out your lack of the grasp of regulations. I was pointing out that a guy comes on here and you seeing he was attempting to reset without the aid of the installer made the suggestions that the original poster had brought the situation on himself by having too many false alarms or that he must have had a letter from the police etc.
There is nothing to suggest from the OP that has happened.

Your suggestion to start my own DIY forum is laughable as this IS a DIY forum hence the OP asked how he could DO IT HIMSELF.

You could have explained the system without including the suggestions that the OP had caused too many false alarms , that is just supposition.

The OP has said the installation was rubbish and that Chubbs service is awful so who turned over who?

As a note.

An NSI fitted system not linked to an ARC has exactly the same Police response as the Yale systems I install.

ie the Police will respond to either only if a witness of keyholder coroborates the presence of intruders.

Due to your complete lack of knowledge on the subject you make assumptions and post them as fact - without showing why or how?

It's odd how all those in the trade, both engineers, companies and manufacturers are, in your view, wrong and yet you, someone with no training or qualifications (your words) and who fits diy kit whilst charging for it, is always right.

Amazing, our average system install is bigger in both size and value than your annual turnover yet you're the expert - not.
