Removing excess solder

just a quickie is it best to remove excess solder from a joint with a wet or dry cloth and why ?

Quickly, with a damp, fluff free cloth....if its just excess after sorting an end fed fitting though, no need to remove it.

bog roll works fine. its cheap and always handy if you need it for another job too.
