my old c unit has been changed for one with rcd protection, now when i put my oven on it trips the rcd...oven is plugged into ring main, dont know the wattage of oven is but it has worked fine before new cu....do i need new oven or what? thanks
Sadly cookers are prone to this - tiny cracks in the element covers let moisture in, and this create earth leakage which trips the RCD. When the element gets hot the moisture is driven off, but of course you can't get it hot...
If that's the cause, a new element should fix it, but ideally cookers shouldn't be on an RCD.
Sounds as if the oven is faulty. try plugging a different appliance into the same socket if it does not trip then it is a sure sign the oven is faulty. I take it you have a certificate for the consumer unit change? Has this occured straight from the consumer unit change or has it developed since?
