Every night at about 11.30pm out boiler switches on and something starts up in the airing cupboard for about 10-15 minutes. We have an Apollo boiler and this is on a timer to come on in morning and go off mid evening.

Anyone know what is happening and whether it should be or not.

What time is clock set to turn the heating/hot water off at night?

Seriously though. You say your timer is set not to demand anything at that time. But the boiler and pump are recieving 240 volts from somewhere. do you have a DVM are you comfortable working with 240 volts

No not sure what a DVM is, can you get them off ebay :)

Just had a thought though, could it have anything to do with our water softener?

Is there a frost thermostat, which will turn the boiler on of the temperature drops too low?

Without adjusting your on-off settings (but first confirm they are as you said) adjust the clock setting to read 11.30PM and see if it comes on. If it does your timer must be at fault

Yes pretty sure its the pump making the noise. The boiler fires up, I tried to switch it off one night and the only way I could was to switch it off at the wall, none of the on off settings etc would work.

It's a 15/30 30/50 65/80 one of these, as per the instructions on the boiler! Oh and its brown and white

I don't know how many motorized valves we have, is there a way of telling?
