don't think anyone will tell you that you can expect an end result you won't notice.

ONLY way to get this is to have the whole ceiling done at the same time by the same person with the same materials and the same tools etc etc, you get the idea.

not a very helpful response i'm afraid but the truth IMO.

best you can do is practice with an artex brush on some spare board until you're happy it's close enough.

failing that get it skimmed.

Got to agree; repair it, get it skimmed & lose the coving at the same time if you have it. Both are not much more fashionable than farting at your dinner party in today’s market; go for the nice flat square edge modern look

you are using the wrong tool to stipple use this http://www.refina.co.uk/acatalog/Brushes.html first off what you do is paint on a thin layer of artex so its more or less level with existing artex you do this because if you dont you will see the patch, once the artex you have put on is firmish then paint another layer over the top only this time take it over the edges by about 6ins all round using less artex on the brush as you go to feather it out, then use the stippler, once painted you wont hardly notice as a matter of fact if done good enough you wont notice at all :)

Your house insurance should pay for the necessary repairs to an acceptable finish- they usually pay for damage - not the cost of fixing the leak
