The previous owners had an extension built by 'dodgy cowboys inc'. The ground floor has solid (judging by the slight cupping on some planks) pine flooring on concrete. However, we get wood lice coming out under the floor length curtains. Does this indicate a serious or a cosmetic problem? I am worried that for wood lice to be there they must be eating something rotten and they should only have a choice of flooring or skirting. The last time I encountered wood lice was inside a back door of a 1978 house and the oak doorstep fell apart with rot by 1985.

We are about to redecorate and I am tempted to remove the skirting and fill the expansion gap with mastic. I would appreciate advice.

filling in the gap wont stop the woodlice but may mean your floor tents
you need to find the rotton wood remove the wood and source off dampness then the woodlice will stop

I really was afraid of that. :( Given the lack of insulation in a 1993 extension, I have to assume that others regs were ignored. At the moment I am worrying that moisture is coming up from the concrete floor and rotting the flooring under our feet. Can somebody give me some good news, please?

is there any area where you think theres actual decay!!!
the damp and decay could be outside and they are sheltering where its moist and cool
