Hi All.

I am having Wickes Cashew OAK wood flooring, and I have decided to change the skirting as well so that there is no need to have beading.

I got the following.

The wood flooring is

My question is that how can i make the pine skirting go with the wood flooring ?

Secondly, is it better to stain + varnish before fitting to wall or after when it has been cut and screwed to the wall ?

Any other tips would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

I would try light oak wood dye and then coat with either a varnish or oil, I would prefer Danish oil as it leave a flat finish which will go with the oak floor finish. You could try both methods on a scrap of skirting.
Skirting will be easier done before fixing and then touch up if it's required.
You can mix spirit based wood dye with oil before applying, this makes the job quick and easy though it does also reduce the colour so matter of testing first, if you do this ensure you have enough to do all timber as you won't be able to match the colour mix again.
