wood filler question

Hi just put some oak skirting up and have screwed to the wall whats the best wood filler to use as i am thinking of just oiling them or will i need to fill and stain.Also is there a stain you can use on pine to give it the look of oak,thanks

The "best " filler would have been to use pellets. But as the job is already done then filler it is we use this

Staining will always be a bit akward, the grain is different and pine can become patchy if you aren't careful. There are several stains available both spirit or water based. I personally go for the spirit and but the dark stain and dilute to suit. Always try on a waste piece first.
