the combi boiler explodes, and the plasterer dies

Seem's to me that far to many B.G engineer's are slagged off on this forum , easy target . It would seem ??? that slagging off b.g engineer's is the only reason that some come onto this forum !!

Of course there's good & bad. However, the BG reputation in the industry is far worse than the suits or the CPSs are foolishly believing!!!

Oh hold on, ground breaking news; They also do LPG.....

Be all that as it may , I don't quite see what that has got to do with th b.g engineer's on this forum , do you know them ??

A BG engineer in Manchester went to look at my mother's (83 yrs old) boiler (my mother, not the boiler!!). It was the old back boiler type and the heat exchanger was leaking. Obviously he didn't have the part to hand, but came back at 6 that evening and fitted a new one, staying until nearly 9 o'clock. Her neighbour asked him what time he finished. He had finished his shift at 7, but my mother had been distressed when he first came round and he didn't want her to be without heat or hot water. Yes, he did recommend a new boiler but he was right to do so. He reckoned that his boss would let him start a bit later the next day if he explained what had happenend.

theres good and bad unfortunately BG is not the reputable firm it once was my father started work with BG when he was 14 he said it all went **** up when it privatised I agree.
Yeah but a££ those lovely shares given away . You`ve all made a mint.

I went to a job where the customer was complaining about noise. Turns out a local firm of apparently reputable engineers has fitted a new system and put the bypass BEFORE the pump! I advised she get them back to sort it. A few weeks later I was back there for the very same noise complaint, they had moved the bypass ok, but they'd now put it AFTER the zone valve! Once again I told her to get them back. I know these examples of good/bad things could go on for ever but seeing as BG engs get so much grief on here i thought i'd share that.

P.S. I'm not sure why the customer didn't just got straight back to the installer rather than me ha

In a lot of cases basic that is missing is a bit of common sense. One example being fitting a bypass on a Y plan.

If logical approach is taken, often the result is logical sense. When brain is not in gear, nonsense is the result.

Very true Danny, but the CPSs are right up their own arze!!

Of course everyone makes mistakes, we are all human. But with supervision & a good understanding of systems, the mistakes should be reduced?

Just to clarify for the hard of thinking reading this thread, what Danny stated regarding the 'Y' plan, this refers to a mid-poss valve; this valve will never not have an open port, even when all thermostats are satisfied, the hot water port will remain open, so this will even accommodate pump over-run. Therefore no by-pass valve is required.

I hope this find you well Danny auld pal?
Regards
Tricky Dicky... ;)

just a note if thermostatic radiator valves are fitted you still require a bypass even with a y plan

A mid position valve could still be in CH only position when all TRV's are close couldn't it....?

Andy son, that's why you have the room thermostat in the same room as a radiator with no TRV. Also a room stat is going to shut down years before all TRVs - that's why we fit them. But at least you are thinking & not hard of thinking mate......... ;)

Could you be anymore patronising? Fact is, some systems have TRV's on all rads, and some systems don't even have roomstats. Wether they're suposed to or not it happens. I've come accross DIYers putting there own stats or TRV's on many times. Haven't you?

I work in several schools that do not have room stat's fitted , due to one boiler serves several different class room's , they have a trv's on all rad's , & 3 way valve's fitted , also in some instances a by-pass valve has been fitted to provide a minimumn flow rate around a boiler at all times , irrespective of pump over run .

Could you be anymore patronising..................Oh okay son, brace yourself!!!..............

Of course, if a system as you discribe, is wrongly installed, one would correct it or fit a by-pass.

The point is chaps; we are discussing a domestic small 'Y' plan system, try & keep up!!!
