Wall thermostat or TRV

another pen pusher's idea room stat turns the house off coz the hall rad has no trv rip the room stat out or turn up on full

Why would you want to rip out something that's saving you money by running the system more efficiently? There is no point having the boiler going when the house is up to temperature.

I think the clue here is in his name.........
and so is yours corgi is so out of date

Last time I looked, CORGI was still in existence and so still in the present....

So come the Summer, when the room stat will have switched off the boiler, you are still happy for it to be chugging away with all of the TRVs closed?

been corgi and gas safe for 30 years so please do not treat me like a idiot i know what a room stat does and i my opinion its a waste of time with a radiator with no trv
bedrooms and other rooms can be cold but will have no heating coz the one room with only the room stat is warm shuts off
everything stop reading the manuals and get some common sence
Your initial reply suggested a lack of comprehension, not an opinion based on personal experience. Like you, I have a range of beliefs based on my own experiences; doesn't make me right though :!:

my own opinion but does not mean people should start abusing and treating me like a idiot

Fair enough and I apologise if you feel offended. It wasn't intended that way.

So, based on yor experience, if all rooms get up to temp and all rads shut down, you reckon it's ok for the boiler to keep firing up and using unneccesary fuel? Genuine question.

Please feel free to join us in the 21st century.. Less and less folk actually turn their boilers off in the summer, an increasing number wouldn't know how to.... folk want to set and forget, not to come home to a cold house and wait for it to warm up.

If the wall sat is turning the boiler off before rooms with TRVs get up to temperature, that's not the fault of the wall stat or the TRV. It means that either (a) the radiators in the rooms with TRVs are too small for the heat loss, or (b) the radiator where the wall stat is located is too large.

It could also mean that the system has not been properly balanced.

I had this problem at my last house. There was a very large rad in the hall which was required to heat the hall, stairs and two landings. (OK, there was heat coming out of the bedrooms as well, but no rads on the landings). The rooms never got up to temperature. I solved the problem by closing down the hall rad a bit at a time until the TRVs worked OK. The hall was the last to reach temperature, so the wall stat then turned the boiler off.
