Been to Wickes today to buy a new hot water cylinder to replace the one that was in our bungalow when we bought it 29 years ago.

Why on earth do they stick all of that foam packaging to new cylinders these days. I suppose its so they don't get damaged in transit. Took me ages to scrape it all off, before I could fit it. Completely unnecessary!

Although it has been known...

They just dont think do they, some arrshole put all that thick itchy stuff in my loft, I couldn't find my pipes I wanted to lag, or my joists to walk on, took me ages and weeks to stuff it in my wheelie bin, bloody bin men moaned like hell, the house feels a lot fresher in the winter now, the boiler works better as well, it stays on for ages, think I may need to get a condensation boiler though as the gas bills seem a little high, thougt about a Crombi boiler, Wickes sell them as well, looks like I can fit it straight to the 8mm gas supply near the gas fire, they sell a kit with a bit of 8mm pipe and and a valve, got a friend down the pub who will do me a scrotification certificate

Op, you could have removed it more quickly by wrapping a petrol soaked towel around it and setting fire to it.

Actually the OP needs to do the job properly. I think he'l find that if he takes the new cylinder down the scrappy, the nice man will give him a few quid for it.

Then everybody's happy, and you have have a fine old time sticking your pencil into that foamy stuff you took off. Its somehow oddly satisfying ;)

too good to resist
i like to stick my screw driver in while i'm wiring the Y plan!!

Yes, mine thinks that the insulation was put on so that he could have a £200 deluxe scratching post. Will tan his tabby hide when I catch the buugger!

The current blue foam is applied at the factory to the cylinder to reduce the heat loss.

It should be left on the cylinder when its installed.
