Hi there,

I would like to try board out a portion of my loft for some extra storage space.

My question is this: The insulation in the loft is considerably higher than the top of the joists. Does it matter if the insulation gets compressed under the boards, or would I somehow have to raise the height of the joists to allow for the thickness of the insulation?

Thanks very much for any advice!

Sounds like a good idea., thanks very much.

How did you fix the 5" blocks to the joists? And did you then screw the boards directly to the blocks or did you counter-batten across the joists?

Thanks for the advice!

Just use counter joists in the opposite direction to the existing ceiling joists. SteNova's idea of using blocks is loopy.

no it will not.. just do what you want... compress it... much easier and will have no detriment effect. 300mm of insulation is mad...
