Insulated, plastered ceiling to existing conservatory roof

Hi,

We have started to insulate traditional polycarbonate roofs & plasterboard & skim under the existing glazing bars.
Keeps the look of a conservatory roof from the outside with a traditional ceiling on the inside.
Warm in the winter & cooler in the summer. Benefits as follows;

1.Reduced heat loss through roof
2.Easier to heat in winter
3.Stops sun glare which fades furniture
4.Reduces noise from heavy rainfall/hail stones
4.Allows client to decorate to their choice

Hello there
A couple of questions on these poly roofs.

What are you using to stop condesastion on plastic ?
Will the glazing bars take the weight?

We find that by leaving a gap above our insulation sheet that there is adequate air flow to stop condensation & the roofs are all either galvanised mild steel or aluminium, and are each individually designed to withstand wind loads and snow loads and human traffic, with huge tolerances. The structure is so strong, that the company responsible for manufacturing over 50% of the conservatory roofs in the uk (ultra frame in Clitheroe) had their research and development department do a publicity stunt which involved constructing one of their roof structures on the floor of the workshop, then hoisting a land rover and standing it on top of the frame....that is how strong they are!

All conservatories are Exempt from Building regulations

A conservatory is exempt from Building Regs only when at least half of the new wall and three quarters of the roof is either glazed or translucent material. Once the roof is no longer glass it becomes an extension.

We don't touch the polycarbonate... It looks exactly the same on the outside.
Still a Conservatory!

Not on the inside :!:

Conservatory must be glazed and 75% of the roof area to be covered with either glass or polycarbonate

You would've been better off just changing the roof sheets to smartpoly or heat shield type

Excellent. I'm going to build an extension and then stick polycarbonate sheeting on top of the roof, and call it a conservatory. I'm sure my BCO will agree

Cheers

spend ££££'s on a conservatory and then get a normal ceiling put in???

Bit mental that.

Didn't realise how noisy my polycarbonate was going to be when it rained.
Also the room was so hot in direct sunlight.
As i have ample glazing around the perimetre of the structure for light it is the perfect soloution.
I know have a comfortable room that i can use all year around. :D

Well if you're happy, who are we to disagree? (we will anyway though)
