I know this boiler is ancient and worthless however when you need it...

I have one and it has been turned off i.e not in any use for 6 months now due to not needing hot water or heating but now I do. When I went to lit the pilot light, it lights then once the grey button that I hold down is released, it goes out straight away. Last winter a new pump and thermo thing was replaced and it worked fine and it has been turned off for months at a time before and no problems.

Any idea and yes, I am holding the button for more than 20 secs...

Its one of the following .Dirty pilot injector/faulty thermocouple or faulty gas valve old boiler but perfectly ok

Daft Q. but in all these months of it just sat around doing nowt have u had anyone service it? :?

Would u leave your car on the drive an expect it to fire first time after all that time... Oldies need loving too :D

Agree with the two postings above:

1. Service - definitely recomended

2. Termocouple -cheap diagnostic

3. Gas valve p/no 393180 or 392788

The boiler still isn't a throwaway, Well worth the cost of your local RGI visiting it.

Its just never on cos I live alone n to be honest when it is on n working, the water is **** cold even though the house is toasty. It was serviced in April n then it was off for the summer n seein as it was workin fine, didn't expect a problem so soon.

Anything I can do before having to pay to have it looked at. It had a new thermocouple and pump fitted in April...

You could try holding the grey button a bit longer, say a minute. Not sure it will work though.

Would still recommend a RGI (different one) looks at it, as there are tests he has to do which I cannot discuss here. At the same time I would ask him to look at the boiler controls as you seem to have additional problems there.

Sorry I can't help further

Nobody should be giving technical advice in this section, but I will say the following. A lot of plumbers use cheap universal thermocouples, I only use genuine |Honeywell ones. The cheap ones tend to fail more quickly, and even the dearer Honeywell ones are not expensive!

Have a look at the flame - is it strong and blue or "floppy" and yellow. If blue it is probably the T/C, (or if you're unlucky, the valve). If it is yellow, a service should suffice
