Drilled hole in side of kitchn unit... help!

I was tempted to post this in DIY Disasters but hoping for some help here first.

I have kitchen units from Wren (yes i know...) two wall units have glass doors and glass shelves.

The special brackets for h glass shelves do not fit into the holes provided for the normal shelves in the carcase so you have to drill them out by another 2mm.

All was going fine until the drill snagged on the last one and went all the way through, this would be ok, but typically it was on the showing side.

Any thoughts on how to fill, the carcases are light oak style. I have some oak paneling and have considered using that to make a full side panel, but that may be over kill

You could fill it with car filler (easy to work with), then by a tin of enamel paint from a hobby shop & try to paint it.
It my early work days we pianted wood grain this way.

theres a small chance the surface layer will be intact have you looked for it ?

big-all: it broke up unfortunatly that was my first thought.

I think some kind of filler but not sure what

I thought that some filer made with a bit of natural timber shavings that match the veneer mixed with some clear wood glue was the fix of choice?

mmmm ive done this myself,

i used either brummers,shallac sticks,colorfill,wax sticks,even some colored pencils,takes a bit of time but you can blend it away,the only thing is YOU know its there so it may well bug you.

Can't you just buy a replacement end panel?

Thanks for the replies, useful ideas, I think that the filler will be the best option, if it does not work I will have to add some form of end panel.

I don't think I can just replace the panel as the units are pre-assembled from Wren so doweled and glued, I doubt if the unit will come apart that easily.

I am thinking that I might be able to find some form of light oak end panel, that I can cover the edge of the unit with. I would have to mirror this on the other side of my cooker hood.

I've done something even more stupid, recently fitted a magnet kitchen and was drilling the holes for the handles, made a template/jig to drill through so all the handles were level then like an idiot offered the jig up onto the hinge side of the door and drilled 2 holes

Anyway, i used my coloured wax sticks from my pvc repair kit, melted the wax in with a soldering iron and buffed off and you can't tell , maybe if your not as brave you could just fill it, sand flat and put a patch of fablon over it?

Stick a self adhesive hook over the damage, and use it as a tea towel hook.

yep try digdilem idea but go for an uneven ragged oval or even try a brown screw cap as they are associated with cabinet sides

By far the best solution. It's actually called a Dutchman. Cut out a section of veneeer from a side not seen and using a sharp craft knife, cut out the damaged area and let the Dutrchman in.
