Hi everyone

I recently took this lighting fuse board out of a rewire job - and yes the fuses were still in use - mostly cloth covered cables, but some plonker had wired in some T and E (red and black though, so that's OK!)

How old do you reckon they are? The house was 30's I reckon.

Secondly - having rescued them - what shall I do with them? Would they look a bit odd mounted in a frame as a bit of art? I think the wooden box is very sweet!

That would be about the right era for the units: Double-pole fusing on wooden boards and the tumbler switches with a tie-bar for isolation were common arrangements in the 1920's/30's.

Probably 'original', then - certainly 'pre-war'.

If it wre me, I'd regard them as too pretty to part with - but otherwise, eBay or a proper auction!

Kind Regards, John.

The fuse wire's only mounted correctly in one of the fuseholders.

Either donate it to a museum or auction it at a real (not ebay) auction.

Did the owner give them to you? Nice of them. Ebay or boot sale, or antique store.

At a guess the works were probably carried out under a standard contact including disposal of waste materials, and no variation to this was requested

Double-pole fusing
Sure about that?

The box may have been rewired in later years to provide single-pole fusing for four circuits, but at the time it was originally installed it would almost certainly have been wired for double-pole fusing for two circuits - Supply to the two central busbars connecting to two fuses each, one circuit taken from the left pair of fuses (top & bottom connections), one from the right.

Thanks for replied everyone!

The owner was quite surprised that I wasn't going to be reusing them! I offered to dispose of them for her.....

The existing set up was double pole indeed - NICE!

Would some one really be interested in paying £ for these? I can't believe that. Mr Peckham helped me out with some cert software advice a while back so I might offer them up by way of a thank you...
