Nick Clegg has come out in favour of giving away free shares for publically (atleast partially) owned banks to people on the electoral register.

What they are ACTUALLY proposing is that they give you the shares, but when you sell them you have to pay the government back what they themselves spent to purchase them with taxpayers money (your money) from the bank in the first place...

i.e they pay £100 of tax payers money to the banks in return for the shares, they give them to voters, who, when the shares reach a level greater than £100, sell them, give the government back the £100 and keep the difference.

Seems a bit silly in a few ways, firstly, why don't the government keep the profits and use it to fight the deficit?
Secondly, how do you distribute the shares? Surely as they were purchased with tax payers money in the first place, only tax payers should get the shares? and the higher band tax payers should get more shares?

Just seems a bit of a gimmick to encourage the benefit class to register to vote

as Long as all the asylum seekers get their fair share I'm all in favour

People on benefits should not be left out, they need the money more than those who are working. It's only fair.

In theory it seems like a good idea, actually giving us proof of ownership for something we've paid for but then why not extend the scheme to cover everything paid for out of our taxes? £30- billion of our money is going into HS2, the high speed rail link, or how about we all have shares in the NHS or social services?
I have , in the end , to agree with skitzeey keep the shares and use the profits for the benifit of the country as a whole , in fact I'd go further and say all banks should actually be nationilised.

Haha, free shares, the admin will cost billions.

No, this is plain and simple vote buying by Nick Clegg.

Sell the shares and pay off the loan we borrowed to bail out the banks. Germany and China will want their interest otherwise. The UK has NO MONEY. We borrow and borrow and borrow ....

We are bust just like Greece.

This country isn't bust.... there is so much money swilling around it's obscene.... Whereas in the 'proper' depressions, people couldn't afford to eat, or feed or clothe young children, these days, it JUST means more credit.... for the poorer half of society, and absolutley nothing whatsoever for the other half !!!!

Anyone watch wimbledon today? well how much is a ticket on centre court for the mens final? Well ticketmaster says 100 quid... but many other outlets, including ebay have them at 2 grand and above..... 2000 x 15000 (the venue's capacity) = £30M.... plus all the other corporate costs, food, accommodation, logistics etc etc it'll be £300M easy. What about Glasto and F1 and restaurants, and coffee shops... all making obscenen money out of service and entertainment....

It's all wrong....

Welcome to being delusional. After being paid today, after paying bills, food etc, to stave the bailiffs off, I've £30? to last me two weeks....? For two people. But people on here post such torrid, and badly spelt posts, how are they in work? Not you Martian. With that I have 3 tins of out of date chicken soup, that tastes like dishwater, and 2 tins of beans. YUM! At least I have a pint of milk that doesn't taste like cheese.

£8.40 of that budget is bus fare to sign on.

Why?

It is a free society, one chosen by the masses.

For instance, there is nowt stopping you doing the same as them albeit with a bit of brains and entrepreneurial skill thrown in.

Micky you don't even deserve that, you should be doing hard labour to pay for your scrounging handouts. It's freeloaders like you who are bringing the country to its knees! Have you considered going on the new c4 show "the fairy jobmother"?

Don't be so stupid ffs. Scrounging chav parasites don't deserve fresh air nevermind YET more hardworking taxpayers cash. Are you a dolebludger by any chance?

Although I agree with you DM, I suspect that Cajar was trying to be humourous and posted without smilies ( hopefully )
