I had a wasps nest, entrance just below eaves of a bungalow so i sprayed a wasp powder in and around the entrance at dusk for a few nights in a row, and the activity dropped from a wasp or two every second gradually to none visible. I left it a week of no activity before venturing into the eaves to look at the nest and also I had some work to do in that vicinity.

As I approached the nest, I could see it was about the size of a football, either side of a roof beam, and no wasps crawling around it.

As I got closer and could see the far side, there were a few bodies on the soffit and some were wriggling and some trapped in a spiders web, looked a mess, but as they were wriggling I decided to get out of there. I sprayed more powder that evening at the entrance just to be sure.

A week on from that, and I again ventured into the eaves.

As I approached about halfway point along the eaves there was a HUGE wasp sat in the middle of the eave floor with its wings up but sitting still that wasnt there on my earlier visit. I thought it was dead, got real close to it and although not moving, it was a little too fresh looking for me and as it was so big... i retreated again!

A few seconds later after I shut the hatch to the eaves I could hear buzzing on the other side of the door.

I think this might be the queen as it was very large.

As its relatively early in the year is it possible she could create a nest elsewhere in the eaves? I have not seen "her" for a few days now. I have some sugar water in the eaves in a plastic bottle next to the door to see if I can trap her.

Am I being a woosey? :D

Thanks.

It may be forming another nest. They will not return to the original due to the powder you treated it with, and the dead wasps in their.

The nest will be just behind the gap they get through, as they dont like total darkness. You could go through the loft and spray directly on to the little git, or watch where other wasps enter from the outside and spray again at dusk.

Let the little gits move into Wotan's property! ;)

Will be little activity in loft, exit will be to the open air, you can get a wasp nest spray foam which you coat the nest in, will kill the whole nest.

My older brother had a wasps nest in his loft space, so climbed up into the loft space (armed only with a torch to have a look). He heard some buzzing, dropped the torch and beat a safe retreat, straight through the ceiling.
Wasps 1 - Brother 0

I thought this too - but having been in the eaves they seem attracted to light and have followed me out (this was before i'd killed the nest).

I am seeing more wasps around this evening, though none going directly into my attic - just sniffing around some of the many holes.

Am starting to think this wasp is making another nest.

Problem is i cant find the little git since I saw her a few days ago. Could be anywhere in the eaves, I dread to think tbh. I am sure im seeing more wasp activity around my attic this evening, though none actually going in or out anywhere. Do queen wasps go into "heat" ? :D :D

They certainly go into heat when you turn a flame thrower on them!

Wasps do 'sniff' around properties, it is when you see them coming and going from a gap / hole throughout the day, that you know to spray that hole at dusk.

Yes, leave alone, they are gods creatures.

Im one of gods creatures too. I also have the intellect and technology to exterminate the little gits. I guess we should blame god for that, and my actions. Hehe ;)

I did consider petrol !

None seen going in so far..

I was working on a loft conversion some years back and the work started in the depths of winter, whilst the original roof was still closed to the elements. The rising heat through the new opening into the loft woke up quite a few queen wasps over the course of a few weeks. I used to dread going there because of them. ;) ;)
