can someone advise me on a hot water problem please ? i have suddenly lost hot water. if i run heating i can then get hot water. i have replaced cylinder stat, 3 way valve and programmer so i presume that it is not an electrical problem. i am starting to think that it may be a partialy blocked cylinder but can find no other cases of this on the internet. i have a ideal logic boiler which is 8 months old and the fault code is FD (water flow). would appreciate any advice thanks

the cylinder will heat if i call for heating and hot water, (i put heating on to fire up boiler and then switch on hot water) once room stat switches off, the boiler stops and then flashes fault code. if i ask for just hot water the boiler fires up about 10 seconds and then shows fault code. hope this makes sense

Do you mean the hot water in the cylinder doesn't warm up?

Yes. if i run heating boiler fires up fine, i can then turn on hot water and run the 2 together. when room stat switches off the boiler cuts out. if i just ask for hot water only, the boiler fires up for about 10 seconds and then cuts out showing fault code.

Is the valve a three port mid-position valve giving control to hot water only heating only or both

Or is it a standard 3port valve where it's heating and hot water or hot water.

Usually these valves give priority to hot water then heating if installed wrong way it will give priority to heating?

Also check for correct wiringnof the controls.

If you post make and model of controls this would help guide you through the correct wiring.

This could be air in the flow and return from the cylinder?? More likely the return, this may have happened when system was drained to replace 3port valve.

Its a 3port mid position valve, a hortsmann c27 programmer, honywell cyl stat and room stat. i changed programmer because i was getting a live feed on water off feed when water was on, thinking this was effecting the valve. i now dont get this feed on(grey wire ) when water is on. i have replaced wiring like for like on each part i have changed, and have studied the diagrams over and over so i believe it to be correct. as system has been working for 8 months since boiler was fitted.
