I know this is cheap in comparison to what the experts may recommend on here but what are your views? Will the image be good? What will the image be like when frozen etc. Its only £150:

CLICKY ME

What is the recorder like? In time, is it possible the cameras could be upgraded if the recorder is half decent?

Not trying to be funny, but have you not read the other current running CCTV thread?

What would you expect from a £150 car?

Don't get me wrong Alarm, thanks for your comment, but if I didn't do a lot of mileage and wanted a cheap little run-a-round then a Kia would be perfecty adequate, although an Audi would provide more comfort and do the same job for a lot more money!

Like the analogy, friend has both.

Lets look at this another way. You get this kit. And it works....and no reason why it should not in reality. Then you want to upgrade the camera, will the DVR cope with more information?
Or you change the DVR and find the cameras lacking!

I have just looked at this again ( your link) and it makes me cringe. I would not even suggest this kit to someone I did not like.

This is cheaper than I said for Weaver ( if thats the right name, soz if not)

http://www.cctvdirect.co.uk/products/Fusion2-%2d-2-Camera-high-resoloution-CCTV-system-in-a-box.html

But would be better for you. Even the cameras are 520lines not 420.
A bit more expensive but, upgradeable.

Your not the usual "bloke" on here, your about the forums a lot and this is really the least you should be thinking about for quality and longivity and to be upgraded if and when.

Thanks Alarm.

One of my questions related to upgrading the cameras at a later date, so I appreciate your concern about the CVR coping with the additional info - I dont profess to have knowledge of these pieces of kit hence your shared experience really are appreciated.

Strangely enough I saw the system that you have linked to CCTVDirect, and recognise that you professionals sing the praises of that company (your not the MD are you? ;) ), and thought for a few quid extra it would be worth it, but then you need to add extra if you want a HDD. But I take your points on board.

As always, thanks for your much valued input.

LOL no association what so ever.
They sell some decent kit to the public, thats all. Where I purchase your not allowed, as it is true trade only.

Another I say to use is these http://www.henrys.co.uk/cctv.htm
Used some of their stuff, as they are local and get me out of trouble at times.
And they do know what they are talking about, but still avoid the cheaper end.

Thanks for that.

A chap near us installs CCTV systems and seems to use Avtech DVRs. Do you have any thoughts on them?

The difference between cheap nasty toot and reasonable kit is not that great. It really is better spending a few extra quid up front and getting something decent.

One thing Joe Public overlooks is the image difference between realtime on the monitor and playback - that's the first time they realise buying cheap really does mean wasted money.

With regard to cctvdirect. They are a full trade supplier. They have two price lists. ;)
For those in the Leeds area, you can pop into the trade counter and see the kit in use. That way you know what you're getting before parting with your hard earned. The advice they give is first rate, not hard sell.

as i have posted before, we use cctvdirect for all of our general cctv needs, the services is good, the kit forfils all of what we need for most jobs,

the DVR`s are of very good quality and do a exactly as it says in there instructions,

yep you have to add a hard drive, the reason for that is, storage of images, how ling do you want to keep them?

we have to (within some of the sites we work on) for 31 days at D1 recording requirements, (licence trade, bars etc) so thats the reason for the `add hard drive` section.

the back up and tech support is very good as well, warrantee is also good as well as delivery.

we have used them since we visited IFSEC this year, tried two of there cameras and one of there DVR`s in the office and found the quality was not lacking in any way.

and the ability to remote view actually works!!!

nope, i do not work for them, just a pro installer here!!

Oasis

and yes we also use two other companies that will ONLY sell to trade!

I agree with Oasis.

I use CCTV direct. Does what it says on the tin, with great support from the guys, no pushy selling and No quibble returns

Spend the little extra, it will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks for all your comments.

My mate recently had am Avtech, 2 dome camera system installed. I had a look at it today and must say the live image was not particularly brilliant, even people close up would be difficult to identify.

Is Avtech a decent system or could it be the quality of his PC monitor is actually the issue?

I think it cost about £850 fully installed, so it was not particularly cheap.

Probably poor choice of cameras.

Yes possibly - I dont know what make they are, but you would have thought the company who sold and installed them would use at least half decent equipment.

I suppose though it backs up what the lads on here say though. But it also possibly shows not all security companies take that approach and use decent spec equipment.
