that was a sensible answer, if theres a reason you cant measure it you should have explained in detail a bit more and maybe also tell us why you cant make a little hole, if you are looking at numbers on the back of plasterboard thats in situ then there is nothing stopping you making a little hole a couple of mm wide to measure it, and why are wanting to know the thickness have you got to match it or what?
