Have encountered Gyproc plasterboard, with a number (1440843) stamped on the back of it.

Can I tell what thickness it would be, from the above number??

The property was built in 1982-83.

How can I tell what thickness it would be? Circa 1982-83.

Sensible answers, please - there are reasons why I cannot break a section off, in order to measure it.

Drill a hole.

that was a sensible answer, if theres a reason you cant measure it you should have explained in detail a bit more and maybe also tell us why you cant make a little hole, if you are looking at numbers on the back of plasterboard thats in situ then there is nothing stopping you making a little hole a couple of mm wide to measure it, and why are wanting to know the thickness have you got to match it or what?

Unless he is looking at it from the loft, maybe?

i fail to see looking at it from the loft is going to stop him measuring it as a matter of fact i think its more advantageous
