Mist coat coming off with masking tape

I've never put masking tape over plaster that was mist coated over a month ago. I doubt whether any other painter and decorator or plasterer has either.

I’ve never tested after misting before & don’t really do re-decorating but I will always test old paint coverings before re-skimming or tiling over.

Generally, paint is not good news with either & especially if the tiles are on the larger side; for the same reason, plaster is far from the ideal tile base either!

I don't get your point, are you saying you've never put masking tape on plaster? or you've never put masking tape over mist coat? or what is your point?

For benefit of those who were trying to help with answers (or just interested in thread), it sounds like I have painted on the mist coat too thick and its just sat on top of plaster. I got experienced painter coming tomorrow to have a look but his view is mist coat should have been quite watery and he would put it on with a brush, not a roller to make sure its soaked in. I guess I got some sanding ahead of me? Any tips of how to take it off quickest and with least damage to backing (I guess I could always get lot of extra wide masking tape and get sticking lol! )(

I've already said over plaster that was mist coated. Perhaps it will always happen if you do this.
Point is.. best not use masking tape or use extremely low tack because it will probably happen again.

stop worrying, you havent done anythig wrong and theres nothing wrong with your plaster

I take it you mist coated before xmas and have maasked up to paint frames etc, you dont say how long the taape was on but the problem with masking tape is it pulls the paint off when you peel it off

in the trade we use low tack as it dosnt pull the paint

if you have finished what you have masked up, give the missing mistcoat a sand to lose any edges and re mist as before
