I have a 3 gang light switch controlling 3 lights and i want to replace it with a 2 gang switch.

So i want swtich 1 to control lights 1 & 2, and switch 2 to control light 3

Is this possible?

thanks in advanced

Yes.
For lights 1 and 2 put the two wires in the com terminals together in the new switch Com terminal and the two wires in the L1 terminals together in the new switch L1 terminal.
For light 3 swop like for like.

great thanks for that

so its just a case of putting the coms and L1s together for lights 1 and 2?

Do i need to worry about blowing fuses or any problems conecting them together?

Yes as holmslaw added just make sure the lights are on the same circuit and the circuit is dead when you make the swop - otherwise fuses will blow and so may you

The live feed will be looped between the existing 1 and 2 switches.

If they have separate live feeds then your idea doesn't work.
Unless it was installed by someone who found it easier to run a T/E switch cable from each light.

I agree that if it's looped they will be on the same circuit, but the converse does not hold.

Sorry to be stupid.

Are you saying if they are looped ( is that one live feed coming in and the other switches just taking its feed? )

Then I am ok to plug wires from switch 1 and 2 together?

Thanks for all your help

Is there a way to know by taking off the switch they are on the same circuit?
