What is lock snapping?

Jeez.......that is so easy to gain access..and I thought mine was so secure!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the side door you have to watch. Never seen a front door broken into yet (in 25 years) of fitting alarms.

You dont get about much do you
Never seen a small block of flats or a communal building broken into?

Then again you probably never contracted to local councils and housing associations.

Not bloody likely!!! I work the villages with nice people in them. You can have your council estates with my blessing.

No disrespect, but I thought not.
Hence your lack of depth in some aspects of Locksmithing, Physical and Electronic security.
30 odd years starting as a locksmith and progressing into the electronic sides as well as manufacturing security equipment does give you a slightly better insight.

I do lots of other stuff instead. Alarms and locks are just a small part of what I do.

Something like this is pretty good, the trick is to have as little protruding from the door as possible.

There is cheaper but this is as low as I would go.

I will measure up tomorrow,,,but if my existing one is say 70mm would I be better off ordering a 60mm to have less protuding?

They are still more likely to break in the kitchen window. Fit an alarm - far better deterrent.

I've seen quite a lot of ex-forces are getting into Locksmithing. Apparently the course is paid for by the MoD. Is there that much work in Locksmithing Alarm? Never really thought about it until I'd read that. It was in a CIPD mag I think.

There's a forum I belong to with locksmiths in called http://www.ukbumpkeys.com/forum.html

Bet alarm knows it.

Oh and they are moaning about lack of work.

The £635 course for 3 days that turns you into a locksmith.
LOL waste of money.

And it is tight out there now, every chippy thinks they are a locksmith too.

Yeah I know ukbumping and a few others, You BLI then Joe?
Or got in early and still hold MLA status?

Neither. I'm just one of those chippies that fits the things. I only fit Kite marked and hope they know what they are registering.

I hope the BSI people know what they are kite marking cuz I just look for that mark. I trust them to know, then I don't have to.

Too many doors are unsafe regardless of all your locks, yrs ago it was the bottom panel in a door, wooden, cut them out with a stanley. unless your'e in a rush, then one kick.

Today is plastic, panelled, same thing if noise isn't an issue.

First thing is a solid door, good locks, three of, plus bars of good quality for when your at home, a lot of people don't realise that some doors still go in because of poor framing around the door.

And after all that door security, there's just a piece of glass between me and your goodies.

Get a good alarm, especially if your'e remote, it's easier for all burglars to go for none alarmed houses.

Ahh right.
Just remember putting different kite marked items together does not make the whole.

And watch out for old stock with the BS3621: 1984 stamps as opposed to 2004 :D

As people are watching :

A solid core door
1 Dead latch
2 x Deadlocks ( shoulder and knee height)
1 x Hinge Bolts
1 x London Bar
1 x Birmingham Bar

Should suffice for a front door.

Side door

Solid as possible, or with grilles over glass.
1 x Sash lock
2 x 8002 mortise bolts
1 x Hinge Bolts

All to BS/EN where possible.
