mine is 5.7 and I am aiming to lower it through exercise (More cycling in the dales taking crap pictures)

6.4 a bit high to be honest and puts you in the high risk category.

You will have to get an exercise bike to generate power for your computer then you will get 8 hrs exercise a day..

5.2
And my diet is terrible!
Went to the doctors and asked for a check as high cholesterol runs in the family and my mum takes meds for it.
His words where.... Dont worry about it you will die from smoking first.

As it was i have given up the fags for 6 months so far.

HDL 2.9
LDL 3.2

doctor stated no need for action.

Still slightly high on the LDL recommended range is lower than 2.6 but I am not a GP I hasten to add.

A little room for improvement then..exercise?

It's moderate and I don't need exercise.

I have worked in Primary care and as it happens there are many reasons that GPs give differing advice.

Your cholesterol both the overall figure and the LDL figure are above reccommended healthy guidelines.
So why hasn't any advice been given- were you not even told to exercise? I am sure if he mentioned your diet you put him straight on that issue:wink:

Sometimes GPs don't reccommend action because they haven't actually got or cannot be bothered to start a programm or solution for you or because they have practical reasons for not wanting you to come back for an appointment like they have too many patients and not enough doctors prepared to put in the hours and see them.
Maybe they want to keep their prescribing budget lower as they are getting near the limit. Maybe you saw a locum who does not actually give a crap about you as a patient and is only interested in his hourly rate. I have seen it all and more believe me.

You are 3.2 LDL although your maths seems a little out.
You said a total of 6.4 initially and then said a split of 2.9 HDL and 3.2 LDL which only adds up to 6.1..

However

3.3 is Borderline high LDL level, corresponding to even higher rates for developing symptomatic cardiovascular disease events and at 3.2 you are nearing that mark.

I only tell you this information for the sake of your health. I have no reason to start an argument about your cholesterol levels.
