If cholesterol is not affected by diet, why has my mum been told to cut out cheese, full fat milk, fry ups from her diet? If you could let me know Dr Peaps so i can let my mum know that would be great! :?

Diet definately affects your cholestorol

High cholestorol diets are more dangerous not just because of your blood lipd levels but because the fat is deposited and clogs the arteries.

You could change your diet when you get older and have a healthy cholestorol level but still be in grave danger due to previous deposits.

Being a vegan/veggie isnt really that beneficial in this instance, thats good to know.
Bring on the full fat milk, sossies and bacon, black pudding, butter,
Yeah baby!

The article also points out that some fats are good for us and that the problem with taking the low fat stance to diets is that people also stopped eating the good fats.

That is why the fat cutting diets have not worked.
You have to target the correct fats and cut the overall calorie intake.

'Why hasn't cutting fat from the diet paid off as expected? Detailed research—much of it done at Harvard—shows that the total amount of fat in the diet isn't really linked with weight or disease. What really matters is the type of fat and the total calories in the diet. (7-15) Bad fats, meaning trans and saturated fats, increase the risk for certain diseases. Good fats, meaning monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, do just the opposite. They are good for the heart and most other parts of the body.'

Having worked in the health industry you will also know that diet only helps to lower you level a little, most need drugs.

Even people who watch their diet have high levels, this is because people metabolise fat's different.

Indeed but that is not to say that the blanket policy of reducing high choleterol will not work for some people dependent on their personal attributes.

Exercise is the best solution because it affects netabolic rate.
But you can't tell a 60 yr old man with dodgy knees to exercise so dietry advice is required.

or do you suggest not giving people that option even if as you say on different people it may or may not work.

Yes exercise speeds up your metabolic rate.

Most cholestoral is produced in the liver. it repairs your body tissue. You die without it.

I actually prefer to take my information about cholestorol from the people with experience rather than some dubious doctor trying to sell a book no longer in print.

Cholestorol is tied to your diet...
I would've thought so, my cholesterol level was 7.4 a few years ago, changed my diet and eat more good fats rather than bad fats and now my cholesterol ratio is now 3.2

Wow That sounds exceptionally good masona.
I have high cholesterol but my doctors never seem to worry about it, they say they judge it against a lot of other factors ie I am not overweight, don't smoke, don't drink (too much :) )
Also the tablets they give you are not good for you in other ways.
The route you have taken sounds much healthier.
I must try harder with watching what I eat ....I shall take inspiration from your excellent result.
