Apollo Fanfare

The LP522 is set to 'P' the blue wire from the boiler is connected in T13 to the brown wire from pump. The brown wire from boiler is connected into 12.
That correct. You obviously had a memory lapse when writing your previous reply. ;)

There is a link wire from 12 and 14; there is no link wire from 13 to 14.
That's OK

If I follow your instructions
Don't bother - it was just another way of achieving the same results as the Drayton instructions you followed.

Yes looking at the wires for too long

The timer on the LP522 is working fine ie switching off the boiler for the central heating, but it refuses to switch it off using the select button.

Never had this problem before, to me it looks like a faulty LP522.

Now we seem to be getting to the real problem!

Are you saying that, when you use the CH Select button to select the OFF position(OFF, Timed, Once, ON) the pointer goes to OFF, but the boiler continues running?

Sorry I was not that clear

Yes correct when it is showing off the boiler keeps running.

Can you check if both pipes coming out of the mid-pos valve get hot when you have the fault.

Do you have a multimeter (and know how to use it ;) )? If so:

Disconnect the HW thermostat Call wire from terminal 14.
Turn heating on and room stat up so it runs.
Now turn heating off using the Select button.

If the boiler still runs, measure the voltage between valve orange (T6) and blue (Terminal N). If it is below 150Vac, the boiler gas valve is faulty. If it is about 240Vac, the valve actuator is faulty.

Ok checked the voltage it is 237volts when programmer is off.

The valve and actuator are brand new.

Boiler did well for 26 years! I will not be replacing the valve I will replace the boiler.

Many thanks to all who have helped me with this problem.

Ray.

Why would I have not checked the wiring as you said???? Is there something else you did not write that I should have done???
:!: :?:

Also did I say it was the boilers fault?? Jeeze I was planning to replace it next year anyway.

Best start draining down so you have it ready for the 2012/13 heating season.

What are you thinking of getting, ? a Ravenheap from B&Poo perhaps.

Thanks for confirming that.

No

Also did I say it was the boilers fault?
No. But you said: "The valve and actuator are brand new," implying that it couldn't possibly be the valve, despite my saying that it must be.

You also said: "I will not be replacing the valve, I will replace the boiler," which is not a logical solution to your immediate problem.

I wondered if the programmer was set for fully pumped Dave.

The op seems to have an attitude problem as well, so I'll keep out.

How about a link between L-1.
Do you mean at the LP522 programmer? Terminal 1 is the HW OFF terminal. This will get 240V internally from L when HW is set to OFF. This must be happening or the boiler would never fire for CH only.

The problem is that the boiler does not turn off when the programmer is set to OFF.

Rayger (if you are still following  )

1. What happens if the programmer is set to a CH ON period in ONCE or TIMED with the boiler running and the timed period comes to an end? Does the boiler go OFF, as it should, or does it continue running?

2. When the programmer is set to CH OFF,
(a) Measure voltage on the valve White lead (Terminal 4)
(b) Measure voltage on Grey lead (Terminal 7)?

3. Turn HW OFF at programmer; disconnect Orange wire; turn CH ON and room stat high (boiler will not light).

(a) Measure voltage on Orange wire.
(b) Measure voltage on Terminal 6

4. Turn CH OFF at programmer

(a) Measure voltage on Orange
(b) Measure voltage on Terminal 6

Please supply results 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 4a and 4b.
