Hi all,

Trying to get a rough idea of the price of moving the gas meter, electrical box that are on the side of the wall at the moment, were in the processes of quotes for building an extension so will need them on the new extension wall.

I cant seem to find the answers on the Net so anyone that recently had this done it would be much appricated to know what sort of costs we need to budget ;)

I am with British Gas with both nothing on there website

Thanks

Expect prices to start upwards of say £600 for the simplest of tasks.

They expect all kinds of concessions.

You have to dig the trenches.

There can not be any scaffold within a mile!

You have to supply a meter box built in at a suitable working height.

Blah blah blah.

Seriously it makes me wonder what you DO actually get for your money.

Once you have been it the trade as long as i have you do get to know certain people. ;)

I had dealings with them a year or 2 back for a first time connection, so had the fun of trawling through that info.....

Bear in mind if proposed pipe route goes under garden/driveway etc, chances are National Grid may just dig a pit either end and 'mole' through, inserting the service through the 'tunnel' the mole has created. Saves you some digging, and expensive reinstatement costs if a driveway has to be dug up. ;)

Its a easy fit to be honest, the end of the plan is to have the front drive done last its just a few slabs and dirt at the moment thank god ;)

Hi,
I have to move the meter due to an extension.
The meter is being moved closer to the road supply by 4 meters so the main cable is to be shortened.
We have to carry out out the excavation of the cable, provide the trunking and the external box and using the same old meter the cost is £735 inc VAT!!!!!!!!.
Whaqt a rip off!!

Whaqt a rip off!!
Not really when you consider that one man turns up in a van and drops the men at work signs, barricades, cones etc.
Another gang turn up and move the meter.
Someone else comes and deals with the supply.
Oh and there's the survey to pay for.
Also if you had any tarmac or concrete to repair, they even have a separate gang for this.
Value for money i'd say.....
