would this cause condensation?

evening all.

currently reboarding a entire house. the house is a Victorian terrace with solid brick walls.
under the guidance of kingspan, 3 of the main rooms have been studded out, then boarded with K18 and skimmed.

the customer is on a budget and wants 2 of the rooms that are unused boarded but dosnt want to pay the £30 a sheet for the K18. if i studded the walls could i just board with duplex/foil board (£7 a sheet)? would the foil and the 25mm air gap between the board and wall be enough to prevent condensation or does it need to be insulated to prevent it?

If this is an outside wall then there will be a risk particularly when you think that the last two winters have had bitterly cold spells. This is not to say that what you are doing won't help, but your efforts may only be marginal.

Other things to consider are:

What direction is the wall facing.

Lifestyle of the occupants.

Will there be furniture against the wall stifling then air flow.

Etc, etc.

I guess B.C. are not involved then....:cool:
 
Let overlook BC for the purpose of this question :)

Both are bedrooms but spare/insisted apart from relative at Christmas birthdays etc.
Walls in question are external but unsure of facing direction. They do both have unused but open fireplaces tho that from my point of view will
Help with the ventilation.

would you / could you not vapour barrier too? Think you've got to think on what will cause the condensation?

Drying your clothes in house---mental
Not opening windows--------dont help

Or invest in a de humidifier.

Do the rooms currently have a damp/condensation problem--before you do any work?

ps the " lets leave BC out of this question for now" is my new saying, im having that one!

The room will be boarded with duplex, a foil backed plasterboard. This will be the vapour barrier.
Any water vapour in the rooms has to go somewhere and it'll now be prevented from going through the walls as intended, so that's a problem to be sorted. If you mean that it's the vapour barrier which keeps water vapour OUT of the room, it'll still be in the wall and in the space at the back of the plasterboard, which won't do any good to the actual structure of the house. Using modern materials with an old house where the lime is meant to breathe just causes problems for the future.
