Osborne in U-turn on hot pasty tax

He managed to get round the EU directive that insisted that VAT is charged on the "service" of providing a hot pasty by making it clear that providing the pasty is allowed to cool in the shop, instead of being kept warm, then the service is not being provided.

Nothing wrong with a U-turn, better to re-think and change your policies than be pointlessly stubborn.

It's when you keep making U-turns every week because you keep coming up with more inane and stupid policies.

There's everything wrong with doing a U turn. Had this stupid rule not been thought up in the first place, then the U turn wouldn't have happened.
How much has this cost in parliamentary time? Expenses? Assistants time etc ?

Probably a ruse paid for by Murdoch to keep Newspaper sales up.

The only people who will gain from the 'u-turn' are large scale operators such as greggs..

They can keep their ovens going to churn out their regurgitated crap, whilst local quality bakers (who can't afford to) will have to pay the 20%...

And supermarkets will have an 'enticing' (lol) spit roast chicken on display which they'll throw away, and sell the rest in insulated jiffy bags sans VAT..

One wonders whether this was the intended purpose of the tax in the first place...
