I'm looking to make my own 100cm x 130cm diamond trells, but I've never attempted anything like that before. I don't even know where to start! If anyone has any piccies of their own work that would really help me out.
I've made loads of my own trellis over the years mainly from slating battern leftovers or off cuts. The main frame is left at 2x1" and the trellis itsself is cut to 1x1/2" and fixed with nails. Over the years I've used any rustproof nails that were leftover on jobs too, stainless steel , copper and in the second photo you can see the heads of some aluminium nails I've used. As you already know it will be dearer to buy all the timber but try looking for tiling batterns (sometimes called tile lath) in skips it'll be free and treated
looked at the price of pre made ones in b&q then looked at the price of wood from b&q and rustproof screws from screwfix. I made slightly bigger ones than the pre mades for about 2 thirds of the price.
plus, the wood was thicker than the pre-made ones and i'm using screws rather than flimsy looking staples so i'm pretty sure these will last a lot longer.
if you don't count the cost of your time then making them yourself will be cheaper i reckon. especially if you can re-use wood from elsewhere.
