Using sugar soap is stupid - get that stuff dripping in your eyes and then tell us it's a good idea.

Also feels great if you have any nicks or cuts on your hands. Great when it runs right down your arms and into your pitts. Easily avoided with a little cost!

Have you actually read the link? For an explanation as to why sugar soap is effective maybe you should speak to the uk manufacturers and they will provide you with a data sheet of ingredients and explanation for its continued use and high sales.
Myself an another member of this forum have given our opinions of its performance versus soap and hot water and if you disagree perhaps take it up with the manufacturers.
Joe-90 if you read the instructions they will advise on the correct use of PPE/RPE if necessary. If you choose not to use this then that is your fault. Also if you are an employer then you are duty bound under HASAWA 1974 to be responsible for health and safety management and if your an employee your responsible to comply!!

Again you need to read the instructions regarding PPE and comply with health and safety. Unless your a Diyer in which case if you dont want to comply then you have no right to complain!!

So use Gardz then you dope.

Why would that be then??
As according to the Material Data for Gardz this also states to avoid contact with skin and eyes and use required PPE/RPE depending on the task being undertaken. YOU DOPE

In the past the use of washing up liquid in this situation reduces the risks by not using sugar soap (which are minimal to start with). The only situations where sugar soap has been needed in my experience is to clean off kitchen grease, nicotine and general dirt. Also if the customer does not have any laying around then the use of washing up liquid is probably the better option. But then again I would still recommend the gardz!

read what it is not recommended for i.e adhesives!

Vibro

I feel you are running way off on a tangent here.

Starspark has not directly stated that the sugar soap will be better than hot water at removing the paste. You have assumed that removing the paste was the sole purpose for the use of sugar soap which is slightly naive.

Presumably when the op has removed the paper using scrapers and water then the paste will be removed at the same time.

Sugar soap will decontaminate the surface from other contaminants as you have suggested. It will and has removed wallpaper paste in my experience but you have to think about other contaminants that might react with the finish coat of paint.

it is also essential to clean the ceiling in order to make general plaster/prep repairs as this needs a clean surface to key in to.

Of course I didn't check - check out oil gloss while you are at it.

In normal use Gardz is safer than gloss or sugar soap which is mainly washing soda.

I stand by my advice with the gardz as it makes all the washing down irrelevant. But as said in previous posts both options ate viable and its up to the op to make up their own mind. It's been quite a good debate name calling apart.

If you were carrying out a full house re-dec which involved removing wallpaper from all ceilings and walls would you use gardz throughout the whole house?

Yes I probably would due to time and effort of the paste removal.

Agreed it has its a shame Joe had to start on the name calling tho then carry on instead of admitting he was spouting rubbish.
I still believe sugar soap would be better tho specially in the scenario rms has just stated.
