covert cctv camera.

I am now looking for some info regarding an external camera but as covert as it can be.It needs to be external in a housing,3.6mm fixed lens,there is a street lamp 20 ft from proposed camera location (area to view is never 100% dark) and it will be fixed 14 ft from ground level.

Although i have tried searches into a ready made unit,i have not found any thing suitable.

So i am happy to put together a camera into a suitable box,i would like to fit a camera into an an alarm box,dummy or one with its insides removed and a round hole for lens to view,anyone know if this is already on the market.

Those ADT type bell box would not be suitable,i would need a box the size of a slightly larger tissue box and then i could mount a camera like a nite devil 950 via a drilled hole.

So now its over to you experts.

How about a bird nesting box - you can then adjust the camera behind the hole more easily.

How about a satellite dish, replacing the LNB with a bullet camera. You wouldn't need to hide the coax, either.

Forgotten the power requirements? The "shake" in the wind?
How to make the BNC and PSU connections?
You can get mini cams that size that look like bolts. Just fit a IP rated box and hey presto.
There are other covert methods but I think giving this one away is enough.

Thanks for all the interesting ideas. I have seen on ebay ( i use ebay for research rather than purchases) an alarm bell box with 1 or 2 built in pinhole cameras but they do not view straight down just to the sides.
I have bnc/power cable already in position and will just need adapting to which ever camera i get.

By definition pin hole cameras have a very small aperture therefor the amount of light they can admit onto the sensor array is very low. The resultant image is therefore compromised as a long exposure time per frame is necessary and this invariably results in blurred images of anything moving in the picture. Acceptable for real time survailance but practically useless for use as evidence of identity unless it it is a very brightly lit person.

The quality of the images from decent cams is now pretty good. In fact, good enough to convict.

After reading all the replies (thank you) i have decided to change what i originally asked.

I am now considering fitting a quality bullet camera with ir's inside a metal box (aluminum) like those old rusty/paint peeling off boxes widely seen.

Have to finish decorating house first then i will have more time for above project.

Thanks,i have been to a metal working company (an under the arches business) and asked them,is it it possible to make a box like this from aluminiun.

Answer,yes just supply your own sheet and its £8.50 per box made to your dimensions.

I can make up a mounting plate to mount a camera and hang the box from all to be weather proof.

PS,the bottom of the box will be flat and where the blue light is will be where the camera views from a little trial and error will produce a suitable box.
