Hi everyone.
I live in a 1930's semi detached property in South Yorkshire.

I believe l've got a water leak on the lead supply pipe just before it enters through the houses foundations, which cannot be got to unless the concrete path at the side of the house is dug up.

Question is what to do for the best.

Dig up the path and repair the leak, or change the lead pipeing all together, which would mean getting someone in and much expense no doubt, which we can't afford due to current financial situation.

Does anyone know if Yorkshire Water do a free service, etc, to change lead supply pipes.

Any help and advice very much appreciated.

They replace free of charge lead piping on their side of the stop tap, but l'm waiting for a call back, to see if they can help me out some way ( ? ) , from a technician.

Usually, after the stop tap, will be your responsibility. It might be time to get a spade out and start digging a trench and put some alkathene in. the material wont be too expensive and you will save a fortune if you dig the trench yourself.

cheers

Yep its my responsibility, they offer a free repair service to the supply pipe ( one every 2 years ) which we might take up on their offer of.
But also getting them to give us a quote to replace the pipe all together.
Could dig the trench myself but probably at a lost on how to replace the pipe itself etc...

I imagine if you were to lay the pipe yourself and get it into your property where it needs to be and close to the outside stop tap a plumber would be happy enough to hook up for you.

cheers
